Cat Thompson - National Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year for 1929, Four-Time All-American (1927, 28, 29 and 30), and member of the famed Golden Bobcats of Montana State College.


The Helms Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, California honored John Ashworth “Cat” Thompson (1906-1990) for his accomplishments as a college basketball player in the following manor:

  2. Member - All-Half Century (1900-1950) Collegiate Basketball Team

  3. Member - All-Time All-American Collegiate Basketball Team

  4. Designated - Collegiate All-American for 1927, 28, 29 and 30

  5. Designated - Collegiate National Player of the Year for 1929
